Why would any one want to set up VPN on the iPhone?

(1) To access internal web pages of their company.

(2) To get exchange email for which a VPN connection is needed.

For me its getting email. I cannot get exchange email on my iPhone even though IMAP is enabled on our exchange servers, as it appears that I need to be either on the internal network or VPN into the corporate network...
