I too have this same problem under vista. My solution is to go to your "network and sharing center", click "view status", click the "Disable button", then click "diagnose and repair".

When you run the diagnose and repair, it will tell you that your networking adapter has been disabled. Click enable, and it should connect to the one network that you want it to, and not the unidentified one.

This is my solution to this issue, and works for me. It may not work for others, however its worth a try. The only annoying thing is, is that i have to do this procedure every time i log on...

Does any one know of the command line that i can run to reset the local network adapter... essentially automating the above process? the basic ipconfig /release or /renew doesnt work :/

    Thanks. eKKo

Sorry to double post... just found a way to automatically reset the network adapter as requested from my last post. I found this link useful:

    http://www.themediaguru.co.cc/2008/11/how-to-reset-your-network-adapter.html

Look under "The Network Shell" subtitle.

    Thanks eKKo

I have the same problem. After reading many post from the user s with the same problem & almost all attempt to repair it after wasting my three days. I concluded that this is a problem of Vista. So I installed XP on my HP Notebook V6211AU & Internet is working fine with same hardware.

    TSF (Access local only-windows vista)

    1. TRY SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING first, try in safe mode with networking, and disable NORTON Internet Security Firewall. Perform MSCONFIG. Restart nb.

    2. PERFORM DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. Right click on the two computers on the display, select diagnose and repair.

    3. REINSTALL WIRELESS CARD. Device manager, select uninstall under network adapters, restart the computer.

    4. ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS/ SERVICES/ DHCP Client and WLAN—Right click on each service and select Properties, STOP the service and START IT AUTOMATIC back again. Restart the computer.

    5. COMMAND PROMPT (Run as administrator)

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt (Restart the computer)

netsh reset winsock or netsh winsock reset (Restart the computer)

    ipconfig /flushdns (Restart the computer)

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew (Restart the computer)

    6. DISCONNECT THE ROUTER from the wall outlet, and connect it back again. Meanwhile restart the computer, so nb can obtain a clean IP address.

    7. RESET ROUTER by pressing the button of the backside of the router for 10 seconds
