One of my friend suggest me to put server ip address in the alternate DNS field to speed up the data sharing or data access speed...but i dont think so..Please suggest
Preffered DNS address is OK, alternate DNS is for redundancy purpose not to boost your pc access speed to the server. To increase the data shareing/access, consider relooking on your LAN/WAN, Server Spec like RAM, processor, storage adpator etc.
I have a windows server 2003 in my office. There are 20 users logging in to the server with separate user accounts. It takes a long time to logging in and the data access from the server is also very slow.
But with out logging to the server, it's much more faster to access the data from the server.
Why is it so.
I have scheduled the server to run the defragmentation at night every day.
I have latest anti virus software and I used to scan the server and all computers.
Is there any steps to improve the current situation.
There is only one hard disk in the server and i hope it will improve the speed if we put a separate SCSI hard disk for data sharing...but I dont have any prior experience in implementing RAID tech...how will i do that...
if you are using a certified server (not the makeshift PC server), most of the manufacturers have the settings in its BIOS (advanced) to configure the RAID or from their Server software itself. For example, here is one method to configure RAID in DELL server:

What is the Server model & spec? How is the LAN infrastructure? What kind of Switch are being used?
This slowness could be due to very many issues. RAID is for DATA protection. it is recommended to seperate OS from Data volume. Have RAID 1 (mirroring) for OS, then RAID 5 for Data.
